About the project

The project was made for a class in order to make something as a radio product. Options were a podcast & radio drama. Our team chose radio drama because it sounded more interesting to do.

The radio drama features, the story of mercenary living in a cyberpunk world given life using sound. The job? It is to rescue a prisoner. But the character isn't the focus of the story. The world is.

The research

The team generally had to look into how to make a radio drama, from script, to thumbnail, all the way to editing. But the bulk of the research was spent somewhere else. The story.

Things like script writing for radio had to be figure out. How to design the thumbnail to show a cyberpunk theme. Even how a picaresque narrative is structured and so on.

My contribution

For this project I took the role of writer, audio director, voice caster and audio recorder. I also created the writing on the thumbnail. But my main role was writer.

To do this I first had to look for inspirations. These ended up being Devil May Cry: The Animated Series, Gravity rush, System Shock and Cyberpunk. But with that I needed to write the script.

In order to write the script, I needed to format it. My tool is LaTeX. I didn't want to use online tools that can spy on your work or pay a company for something I can do. Inspired by Screenplay package for LaTeX, I created RaTeX made to allow me to reference and create my script.

With this system in place, I began writing for 3 sleepless days and I loved every second of it. I felt... alive. During my writers blocks I looked for voice actors and recorded their voice but once all of that was finished, it was time for editing.

During editing, I didn't do any editing, however, I sat with teh editors and told them how to edit and what to edit to give the world life via audio. Mixing and changing and mixing steam and mechanical arm sounds to create a door sound and so on. And this concludes my contributions to this project.
